How can I deregister from the Non-residents Records Database (RNI) when I move to the Netherlands?
If you are registered in the Non-residents Records Database (RNI) and are moving to the Netherlands, you must register with the Dutch municipality where you will be living. You will then automatically be deregistered from the RNI.
Registering with a Dutch municipality
If you move to the Netherlands, you must register with the Dutch municipality where you will be living within 5 days of your arrival. Most municipalities require you to make an appointment for this. Check with your municipality to see what you need to take with you to your appointment. After you register, your information will be updated in the Personal Records Database (BRP), and you will be deregistered from the RNI.
You will need a valid passport or valid ID card to register at your municipality. Check with your municipality to find out what other documents you will also need to bring with you.
If your situation changed while you were abroad, for example if you got married or became a parent, bring documents with you that prove this. Find out if you need to have your foreign documents legalised and/or translated.
After registering with the municipality, your data will be entered into the Personal Records Database (BRP). It will no longer be recorded in the Non-residents Records Database (RNI)
If your personal data is on record with other government organisations, for instance, the Tax Administration (Belastingdienst) because you have filed a tax return, or the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW) because you have a driving licence, those organisations will be notified of the change.
