Where can I find my citizen service number (BSN) on my Dutch ID card?

Your citizen service number (BSN) is located on the back of your Dutch ID card. The BSN is circled in the image below.

On ID cards issued after 2014, the BSN is printed on the back. Do you have an ID card dated 2 August 2021 or later? If so, your citizen service number is also shown in a QR code on the back of your ID card.

On ID cards issued in or after 2014 the BSN is on the back. ID cards issued on or after 2 August 2021 also contain the BSN in a QR code on the back of the card.

Attention: On ID cards issued before 2014 the BSN is located on the front.

No BSN on your ID card?

If you do not have a BSN and apply for a new passport and ID card, you will receive a passport or ID card without a BSN. You are not required to apply for a BSN.
