Where can I find my BSN?
Your BSN is in your Dutch passport on the front or back of the personal details page. The personal details page is the hard plastic page with your photo on it.
Your BSN is located on the front or back of your ID card, under ‘persoonsnummer’.
You can find your BSN in the upper left-hand corner on the back of your Dutch driving licence.
If you have a DigiD or a recognised form of eID from another European country, you can see your BSN online in MijnOverheid. Your BSN is in the personal details section under ‘Identity’.
If you have activated the DigiD app and have downloaded the MijnGegevens app, you can see your BSN in the MijnGegevens app. Your BSN is in the personal details section under ‘Identity’.
If you have (or have had) Dutch health insurance, you can likely find your BSN on your insurance card or policy.
If you worked in the Netherlands anytime after 1 October 1994, your BSN will likely be on the pay slips or annual salary statements you received from your Dutch employer.
Your BSN is often given on letters from the Tax Administration or other government organisations.
If you have never lived in the Netherlands but worked in the Netherlands and paid pension contributions after 1 October 1994, and you cannot find your BSN on letters, pay slips or annual salary statements, you can request your BSN from the Tax Administration.
Send a letter with your request to the Tax Administration in Heerlen together with proof of your address and a copy of your identity document.
