Where can I find my citizen service number (BSN) on my Dutch passport?

Language selection:English

Your citizen service number (BSN) is in your Dutch passport on the back of the personal details page. The BSN is circled in the image below.

Picture of a passport issued after 2014. On the back of the holder page, your BSN (circled in red on the image) is shown at the top.

In passports issued in or after 2014, the BSN is at the top of page 1, on the back of the personal details page. The personal details page is the hard plastic page with your photo on it. Your BSN is comprised of 9 digits. Above your BSN it says ‘persoonsnummer’, which is another name for the BSN.

Passports issued on or after 30 August 2021 also contain the BSN in a QR code on the back of the personal details page.

Attention: In passports issued before 2014 the BSN is located on the front of the personal details page.

No BSN in your passport?

If you do not have a BSN and apply for a new passport and ID card, you will receive a passport or ID card without a BSN. You are not required to apply for a BSN.
